With Toy Story 4 officially earning more than $1 billion, Walt Disney has become the first studio ever to have five $1 billion movies in a single calendar year. The movie starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Keanu Reeves among others crossed the $1 billion mark, becoming the 23rd Walt Disney movie since 2006 to do so. It is now the eighth highest-grossing animated movie of all time. And it made Disney reach a place that no other studio can even think of.
Disney confirmed that Toy Story 4 is the fourth Pixar movie to cross the $1 billion mark. The others to reach the milestone are Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, and Toy Story 3.
The other Walt Disney movies that have breached this milestone this year are Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
The only other movie that crossed the $1 billion mark this year is Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was co-produced with Disney’s Marvel Studio.
Last month, Disney also announced that it had earned $.767 billion worldwide this year, surpassing its own record of $7.61 billion that it earned in 2016.
Wonderfully, Disney has two other movies lined up for release this year: Frozen II and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, both of which are expected to be blockbusters. Will Disney make it a seven out of seven? Only time will tell!
