The dragons are coming!
HBO recently announced a new series – House of the Dragon, a prequel to the very popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, which ended its wildly followed eight-season run earlier this year.
As the title suggests, this series will revolve around House Targaryen and is set 300 years before the events in the Game of Thrones. It will be based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 book titled ‘Fire and Blood.’ Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, was one of the mainstays of the recently concluded series.
“It’s my pleasure to announce today that we are ordering House of the Dragon straight to series for HBO,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, at a launch event in Los Angeles for the HBO Max streaming platform.
“It tells the story of House Targaryen and the early days of Westeros.”
The official Twitter handle of Game of Thrones also put up a message on Twitter, which was subsequently shared by HBO.
The series is co-created by @GRRMSpeaking and Ryan Condal. Miguel Sapochnik will partner with Condal as showrunner and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will be writing the series. pic.twitter.com/9ttMzElgXm

HBO confirmed a 10-episode order to this new series, which has been co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal, whose credits include Colony. However, the channel did not confirm when the new series would be available to viewers.
In September 2019, the final season of the Game of Thrones won a total of 12 Emmy Award, which included the coveted one for the Best Drama Series.
Will the new series also win the hearts of viewers and critics? Only time will tell!
