Review: The Jonas Brothers’ ‘Chasing Happiness’

A documentary that showcases the journey of 'The Jonas Brothers' to stardom

The ‘Jonas Brothers’ need no introduction. An American pop-rock band formed in 2005, they gained popularity because of their music and Disney channel television appearances. The Jonas Brothers recently launched a documentary called ‘Chasing Happiness,’ which is about their musical journey right from their modest beginnings to their present status. It also covers a spate of controversies that led to their breakup.

The Jonas Brothers, comprising of Joe, Kevin, and Nick Jonas, were destined for stardom. As showcased in the documentary, getting famous was a lifelong dream their family was working to accomplish. A prequel to the brothers’ album, Happiness Begins, Chasing Happiness is a way to portray their present days in a more sorted way.

One of the biggest myths that the documentary tries to bust is the fact that The Jonas Brothers’ stardom was the result of Disney’s multiple series like Lizzie McGuire and Hannah Montana. Kevin chips in to describe their difficult situation further, “We were doing two shows every day at the time and had to drive back from Boston to New Jersey every time as the gas costs were cheaper and we could not afford to stay at hotels.”

This was followed by The Jonas family finding out that, unfortunately, Nick was suffering from Type I diabetes when he was merely 13 years old. Chasing Happiness portrays well that their fame and success came as a result of their hard work, and not merely through luck. There are many star appearances too like Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra, John Lloyd Taylor, and Phil McIntyre.

Despite the amazing portrayal of The Jonas Brothers journey, one thing that the documentary fails to justify is the purpose of the band breaking up and their subsequent reunification.

While there are some loose ends, the documentary is riveting nevertheless!
