Virat Kohli becomes first cricketer to have 100 million Instagram followers

The captain of the Indian cricket team, 32-year-old Virat Kohli is not new to scoring centuries. However, this time, he has scored a century of a different kind.

The ace cricketer has become the first ever cricketer in the world to cross 100 million followers on the popular social media platform Instagram. By achieving this remarkable feat, he also became the first Asian celebrity to find a place in the coveted 100 million followers club.

The next most followed Indian star on Instagram is Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.

The International Cricket Council tweeted the news by saying, “Virat Kohli – the first cricket star to hit 100 million followers on Instagram”

Earlier, Kohli also became the first Indian to have 50 million followers on Instagram when he surpassed that number in February 2020. It is a testimony to his popularity that he doubled the number of his followers in just an year.

Kohli is the fourth most followed sportsperson in the world on Instagram, after Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, who tops the chart with an astounding 265 million followers. Ronaldo is followed by his ace rival and Barcelona icon Lionel Messi from Argentina who has 186 million followers. Brazilian footballer Neymar is third with 147 million followers.

The others in the coveted 100 million club are Hollywood actor and former pro-wrestler Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, American singer-songwriter Beyonce, and singer and actress Ariana Grande.

Widely regarded as one of the best cricketers in the world, Kohli is married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and shares his pictures often with his fans on various social media platforms.
