Raise Your Self-Esteem by Valuing Your Time in these 5 Ways

Raise your self-esteem by valuing your time in these 5 ways

Money can be earned again but you can’t turn back time once it is gone. Most successful people will agree that time is the most valuable asset a person can possess. Unfortunately, most of us are oblivious to the value of time and while it away unproductively.

We squander most of our time by trying to please others. As a result, we end up emotionally drained and repentant of putting others’ needs ahead of our own. Even worse, most of us barely know our priorities and constantly get distracted by things that aren’t important. We are weighed down by fatigue during the weekends and spread out on the couch doing absolutely nothing!

However, in order to make your life rewarding, you will have to learn to spend your free time effectually. It gives you a deep sense of fulfilment and purpose.

There is no denying that loitering around and wasting time makes us happy but we also feel the lack of growth at the end of the day. However, the purpose of life is to broaden your horizons and learn something new each day.

Valuing your time is synonymous to valuing yourself and here are five ways you can condition yourself to do so:

Look at the Big Picture:

We tend to lose sight of the big picture as there are so many distractions that life throws at us. There are unavoidable circumstances such as a family emergency or a business crisis that vie for our attention. Social media too is very distracting in that context. All in all, time slips away imperceptibly and we realise it too late!

When you are not attuned to your own needs, you are not happy. You will be able to keep others and yourself happy only when you feel fulfilled. We will recommend that you to ask yourself a few questions: What are the goals that I strive to achieve? How much will I regret if I fail? What are my priorities? What is the thing that excites my spirit?

As they say, set a goal that makes you jump out of your bed every morning. You will need to look at the big picture to find your purpose and set your goal accordingly.

Even if you fail in your journey towards achieving your goal, you will still gain a lot of wisdom and knowledge. Meanwhile, make sure to use your time in a productive manner and there will be no looking back.

Prepare a Plan for Spending Your Days:

We all hate Mondays because they pile us up with work. However, just imagine that you don’t have anything significant to do on a Monday. How would you feel? Of course, it is a welcome change. But, will wandering aimlessly in the office until you feel like going back home be any good? Without a shred of doubt, it will be a waste of a day!

When you want to materialise the big picture that you have in your mind, you should plan out your day accordingly. Remember that a journey of thousand miles starts off with one step. Break your day down to time-blocks and assign individual time limits for all your works such as meetings, e-mails, and family life. Also, don’t forget to save some time for self-care like exercising or learning new things. Once you are consistent and disciplined with your life, it will certainly change for the better.

Spend Your Time Reasonably:

We are all guilty of binge-watching Netflix but we have the least resistance to dispel that urge. We will recommend that you prioritise your tasks via Google Calendar. You will thus be able to spend your free time on valuable activities. Take, for instance, spending time with your loved ones, reading, organising your closet or office, or simply preparing your own meal will give you a happy state of mind.

Make Sure that Others Value your Time Too:

Your time is your precious possession and everyone doesn’t deserve it freely. When you put others’ interests ahead of your own, you are making deposits in their bank by depriving yourself of the same. Also, you are also signalling to them that your time is twopenny-halfpenny. The reality is that your time is worth its weight in gold and you should have already realised that!

Start from learning to say ‘No’ to things or people that do not deserve your attention. It is the simplest way to start accomplishing your goals. Furthermore, stop being distracted easily. For example, if you are gearing up to exercise and receive a call from a friend, you immediately stop what you were doing. Don’t allow people to delay what you have planned. Stick to the time limit, hang up the call politely, and finish what you were doing. You can return the call later!

Acknowledge the Little Details:

Start from valuing yourself. Be appreciative of your little achievements. Who you have become today is the result of your hard work. Keep reminding yourself of the days of struggles to fuel your future achievements. It really gives you the motivation and encouragement to keep moving ahead!

You must adhere to a game plan that you set in the previous night. Pay heed to the minor things that make your day better collectively; for instance, simple tasks like cleaning up your work desk or doing the laundry at home make you feel accomplished and happy. It is the minor things that make a major difference in your life. Remember that whatever little you achieve is as important as bigger achievements. The Earth revolves around its axis in 24 hours, so why can’t you achieve the goals you have set for 24 hours? Think about it!

The biggest problem that professionals face these days is ‘time poverty.’ You feel stressed when there is so much to do in so little time. But, don’t feel bogged down already. Start planning your day and valuing your time. Things will change for the good!
