According to the Henley Passport Index rankings released in July 2019, Japan and Singapore have topped the list of the most powerful passports in the world, with passport holders of these two nations allowed to visit 189 countries without a prior visa.

These two nations were followed by two European nations, Germany and Finland tied with South Korea at the second spot. Passport holders of these nations can visit 187 nations without prior visas.

The United States of America and the United Kingdom are tied at the sixth place, the lowest position that they have held since 2010.

What is Henley Passport Index?

The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of the passports across the world based on the number of countries the passport holders can visit without a prior visa. The ranking is done based on data from the International Air Transport Association and includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. These rankings are also updated realtime, as and when the visa policies of nations change.
