L’Oreal, the world’s largest cosmetics company, will take off all words referring to white, fair, and light from its range of products, according to a company statement.

This move comes just a day after Hindustan Unilever (HUL) made a similar announcement in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, where organizations across the world are reevaluating their marketing campaigns and products. HUL also decided to drop the word ‘fair’ from its very popular Fair & Lovely cream.

With this, two of the biggest cosmetics companies in the world have taken action to bring about a more inclusive definition of beauty.

Among the many products of L’Oreal, headquarters in France, are White Perfect Milky Foam Facewash and cream, and Garnier Skin Naturals White Complete Multi Action Fairness Cream. The White Perfect range is its flagship product.

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson also decided to exit the skin whitening creams market in Asia and the Middle East. These products were sold under the brands of Clean & Clear and Neutrogena.

According to Euromonitor International, about 6,300 tonnes of skin lighteners were sold in the world last year.

What do you think about these changes that these cosmetics companies are making? Do share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
