Roshni Nadar Malhotra, 38, became the first woman to head a listed Indian IT firm when she took the mantle as the Chairperson of HCL Technologies from her father, Shiv Nadar. Before she was elevated to the new position, she was serving as the Vice-President of HCL Technologies.

Founded in 1976 by Shiv Nadar, HCL is headquartered in Noida and is the third biggest organization in the Indian IT industry after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys. Among the fastest growing IT firms in India, HCL is worth $9.9 billion and has over 150,000 employees across around 50 countries in the world.

Shiv Nadar, who turned 75 this month, will continue to hold the position of the Managing Director and Chief Strategy Officer of the organization.

Also the richest woman in India with a net worth of 36,800 crore rupees, Roshni Nadar Malhotra is an alumnus of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. She has previously worked in the media industry with prestigious brands such as CNBC, CNN, and Sky News. At the age of 27, she became the CEO and director of HCL Corporation, the holding company for HCL’s operating companies.

She is also a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, a philanthropic organization that primarily focuses on education in India. Further, she is the Chairperson of VidyaGyan, a leadership academy for the economically underprivileged, meritorious rural students of the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Roshni has also been the founder of The Habitats Trust, an organization that works to safeguard natural habitats and their indigenous species.

She has consistently featured on Forbes’ list of the Most Powerful Women in the World.

“Roshni has immense pride for the HCL brand and wears it on her sleeve. She has a sharp mind that can navigate through uncertain times. As chairperson, her role is critical. She will be responsible for setting the long-term strategy of the company, make sure that the value system Shiv stood for is protected, keep the board alive and alert and protect all the stakeholders. She will be like a compass who will let the CEO know where the True North is,” said Vineet Nayar, a former CEO of HCL Tech.

We wish Roshni Nadar Malhotra the best in her new role and hope she takes HCL to newer heights!
