Canada legalizes the use of recreational marijuana

After Uruguay, Canada became the second and the largest country in the world to legalise the possession and use of recreational cannabis.

The use of marijuana for medical purposes has been legal in the country since 2001.

The legalisation of marijuana was one of the main poll campaign promises of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Uruguay was the first country in the world that legalized the sale of cannabis for the recreational use in 2013. Zimbabwe, Portugal, Lesotho, and the Netherlands have also decriminalized of marijuana for medical purposes.
