A video of a gym teacher in Georgia tweaking his student’s ponytail has gone viral. It garnered over 3.1 million views so far after being shared on Facebook in January this year. The teacher, Jonathan Oliver, was seen fixing kindergartner Kristen Paulk’s ponytail at WG Nunn Elementary School in Valdosta, Georgia. The video was captured and posted on Facebook by an assistant Kindergarten teacher Kandice Anderson, only to grab eyeballs immediately. She captioned the post as, “When your job goes beyond teaching…#coachO #LoveIt”
It was heartwarming to see the nurturing attitude that Jonathan displays towards his students. Further, it also shows beyond doubt that an educator’s job is not just limited to teaching. When a young Kristen Paulk walked up to her phys ed teacher Jonathan Oliver asking him to braid his hair into a ponytail during a basketball game in the gym, Jonathan readily agreed.
It came as a surprise for Oliver to see the clip winning such humongous attention. Surprisingly, he didn’t have an inkling that the video was being filmed in the first place. Oliver, a father of three, told GMA, that as teachers they wanted to make their students feel at home and ensure that they enjoyed being there. He further said, “We try to love on them as much as possible. To me, it was just a ponytail.”
Paulk’s mom Miyah Cleckley told GMA that she approved of the delightful clip too. She really thinks that she can trust Jonathan with her kid and she is not the least bit surprised that Paulk felt confident enough to ask him for the favour. She said that they have five girls and one son and whenever she is busy working, their father too volunteers to do their hair.
The 34-year-old educator Jonathan Oliver told GMA, “It was a good thing she asked for a ponytail.” He further detailed that his expertise does not go beyond ponytails and for “anything else, I’d say, ‘you better ask your mom.”
