Joining the race to move to electric vehicles, British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that its luxury Jaguar brand will become all electric by 2025. It also announced that it will launch electric models of its entire car range by 2030.

Owned by India’s Tata Motors, JLR committed to releasing its first electric vehicle by 2024. It also said that the Land Rover brand will launch six pure electric models in the next five years.

“Our aim is to achieve net zero carbon emissions across our supply chain, products and operations by 2039,” Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bolloré confirmed.

Similar announcements have been made by the Volkswagen Group-owned Bentley and BMW Group-owned Rolls-Royce before Jaguar joined the league. Last month, General Motors also said that it would turn completely electric by 2030.

Jaguar also said that it was investing in testing hydrogen fuel cell electric prototypes on British roads, in anticipation of a shift in future to hydrogen-powered vehicles.

“By the middle of the decade, Jaguar will have undergone a renaissance to emerge as a pure electric luxury brand with a dramatically beautiful new portfolio of emotionally engaging designs and pioneering next-generation technologies.

“In the next five years, Land Rover will welcome six pure electric variants as it continues to be the world leader of luxury SUVs through its three families of Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender. The first all-electric variant will arrive in 2024,” Bolloré confirmed.

At present, the car maker has just one electric car running – I-Pace that was awarded the World Car of the Year award in 2019.

Bollore also confirmed that the final goal of JLR is to achieve net zero carbon emissions across their supply chain, products and operations by 2039.

It is commendable that all these automotive brands are moving towards making electric vehicles. We hope that many other brands make this move soon and save planet Earth from further deterioration.
