Meet Julio Cesar Mora Tapia, 110, and Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes, 104 from Quito, the capital of Ecuador – the oldest married couple in the world.

According to the Guinness World Records, this couple has a combined age of about 215 years and has been married for close to 80 years now, making them the world’s oldest married couple.

Mora was born on March 10, 1910, and Quinteros was born on October 16, 1915. The two met during a school vacation and knew each other for seven years before they got married on February 7, 1941. Unfortunately, their families did not approve of their marriage and the two got married in an intimate ceremony in the first church built by the Spanish in Quito – La Iglesia de El Belen – in the presence of friends and their godparents. However, with time, the couple was able to bring the relatives together.

“For us, Julio Cesar and Waldramina, it is a great honor and pride to have a Guinness World Records title because it is the highest award that the world recognizes,” the couple said in a statement to Guinness.

“The secret formula = love + maturity + mutual respect,” they added.

“The love and maturity that we had as a couple from the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to define our future,” the couple said.

Both retired teachers, the couple has a big and loving family – five children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

“Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest work, and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence,” the couple said in a statement.

And we really can’t disagree!
