‘Ring of Fire’: Solar eclipse spotted in various parts of the world

The last solar eclipse of the decade was witnessed by people across many parts of the world on 26th December 2019. The celestial phenomenon was seen in India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, among many other nations.

This eclipse was special because the Sun appeared as a ‘Ring of fire’ for a brief time.

What is a Solar Eclipse?

A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, covering a part or the totality of the Sun for viewers on the Earth.

The eclipse seen today was only an annular one, a phenomenon when the Moon is not able to cover the disc of the sun due to its distance from the Earth. In such a scenario, the outer edge of the sun will be visible in the form of a ring, which is widely called the ‘Ring of Fire’.

Some beautiful pictures of the eclipse were put up by netizens across the world on social media. Here is a compilation of a few of them.
